Extensions of Myself

“You know, the boys taught me how to make my own drum. So to be, to be able to have these extensions of myself, this is what healed me. As a young man, who has been through so much in my life, this drum has saved me time and time again. Not just this drum, but every drum that I’ve seen. The songs that we sing, the meaning of it alone, just to look at it can make you feel better you know. Healing, there’s healing that comes with it, there’s a life, there’s just a feeling of being Indigenous, you know. I love - I love what we do.”

Knowledge Sharing

“ I was fire keeping in Beausejour, singing songs and everything, and I’m just thinking about the men’s group, and I’m just like, man, I wouldn’t know nearly in-depth of what I do know about ceremony, about the land, and about that. So I sent them a message, and I showed them what I was doing, and showed them my appreciation for teaching me how to keep a fire, and even how to start one. You know, I take this knowledge everywhere that I go, from Beausejour to wherever it is. It’s just not something that I keep here in Brandon now, I’m taking this knowledge everywhere.”
